Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships, work experience and internships: The oldest and still one of the most effective ways to prepare young people for the world of work, is to get them working alongside a master craftsman or woman to learn their skills and achieve professional competence. From medieval stone masons, cobblers and carpenters to modern-day bricklayers and web designers, apprenticeships ensure that young people acquire the skills and attitudes to hold down a decent job. Because workplace skills are changing fast, new kinds of apprenticeships are needed to train young people to be lifelong learners – teaching themselves the skills they need to get new jobs in fast-changing labour markets.
